Launch Night Menagerie will be Wild
By Shift Time reporter Lorna Green
An artist whose focus is on the co-evolution of humans and machines is bringing an animal menagerie with a difference to the Shift Time launch event.
Paul Granjon, who is originally from France and now living in Cardiff, will be making his first visit to Shrewsbury and said, in his opinion, the festival programme made it well worth a trip to the town.
When asked for a sneak preview of his performance, he revealed that the audience could expect a balanced mix of reflection and entertainment. He added that he would be bringing a selection of robots inspired by the animal world.
“As for the programme of my performance, I will bring a selection of home-made small robots inspired from the animal world. As the robots were made between 1999 and 2009, they somehow represent an evolutionary scale, and belong to different species.
“I will sing along songs with the machines, and in some cases dance as well,” said Paul.
Paul builds robots and other machines for shows and performances in galleries, at festivals and on television.
Festival programme director, Anna Douglas, said: “A cross between variety act, stand-up, folk music and performance art, Paul’s rare performances are legendary, and even if you don’t actually like him - they are unforgettable”!
He will be appearing in the Igloo Pavilion, The Quarry Park, Shrewsbury, on Friday, July 3, at 8pm.
